Javier Martinez (San Francisco, CA)

Javier Martinez works with the dual themes of nature and cultural identity. His mixed media sculptures distil and seamlessly merge the natural world and urban/Chicano symbols into a chimera of fantastical creatures. These modern-ancient hybrids appear always to have been with us, blurring the line between nature and civilization, reality and fantasy, time and evolution, thus creating a “new hybrid identity”.
